how hard to add ac to 91 EF DX
It's not all that complicated *if* you have the right parts. You need all the lines, a compressor (w/ bracket), condenser, an A/C fan and a drier to start. Then you will have to install the evaporator under the dash in place of your bypass tube and install the wiring. Make sure you get all new o-rings, a new drier, and even maybe a new expansion valve (all these are still available from Honda). Then either fill the system yourself (there's a thread on here that gives pretty detailed instructions, just search 'air conditioning recharge'), or pay to have it done. I have an evaporator, wiring and fan if you'd like them (for a fee of course
).
I will actually be re-installing mine fairly soon as well, so maybe you'll catch my thread on the install. My costs will be around $350: $250 for all necessary components and $100 for an evacuation / fill. Good Luck!

Hell yeah, I used to tell customers that they had 2x50 air conditioning at UHaul (lots of old trucks, lots of bad compressors = no A/C)....... 2 windows down x 50 mph = air conditioning

It shouldn't be too hard like wiZCo stated above... about 3-4 years ago converted from R12 to 134a... took ALL of the A/C components OUT, flushed, cleaned, re-furbed.
A/C system came out really EASY....
TIP: For those with a car several years old and the A/C isn't blowing as hard as it once did take out the evaporator core and CLEAN it.
Mine was full of hair and crap...
PS: If you R&R any component use R12 oil on the o-rings...
Oh, another thing, I went thru about 10 (steel) dryers thru Autozone/Advance Auto that were by 4 seasons.... ALL were crap, had rust inside of them... loose caps, no caps (which allows moisture in=very bad)
At about the 10th unit....
Went with a HONDA dryer... came in vacum packed see thru packaging, with CAPS on the dryer as well.... Inside was CLEAN... full aluminum, drop dead gorgeuos welds on it... and it was a couple of pennies cheap to boot...
Only downside on the Honda dryer No sight glass so you do the charge by the pressures...
Up side for those trying to save "weight" is the Honda Dryer is

Yes, all 88-91 Civics/CRXs share the same A/C package.
