88 crx si ( gas and temp gauges stopped working)

any idea why? the gas and temp gauges stopped working in my friends 88 crx si.. i looked behind the cluster and its all plugged in ??

wires melted, fuse blew, something shorted out..... did you add anything electrical to your car?
