Default Very cheap alternative to aftermarket pedals

no flaming please, this little cheap upgrade may not be new to you, but for everyone else out there, here is a good inexpensive replacement for worn out pedals. This may work on other cars besides EF's but I don't know if it will nor do I care.

tools/supplies needed: skateboard grip tape, razor blade, medium sandpaper (if needed), black rust preventative paint (if needed).

directions: remove whats left of the stock rubber covers from the brake and clutch pedals, gas pedal rubber does not come off, check also for rust on the pedals. if there is some, sand it off and clean then paint black to prevent more rust.
now all you need to do is cut out a section of the grip tape that is larger than the pedals that you want to cover.
stick on the tape and make sure it sticks well. then wrap the excess around the edges on to the backside of the pedal so your shoe wont pick up an edge of the tape and tear it off.

the tape isn't sparkley its just reflective from the flash

Cheap, functional, my kind of mod!

Won't be needing it on my Rex seeing as how it is an auto

do it any way it doesn't matter if its auto or stick, this is mainly for slippery shoes on crappy pedals.

I went to a bike/board shop and asked for a scrap piece and they just gave it to me for free.

What a sick idea! Some aftermarket pedals use a grip tape material, and it works great on your shoes for grip. *** Mugen pedals!! hahaha, nice mod man!

if you read the Mugen ad for thier pedals...they say that their gas pedal has no texture because it needs to slide on the bottom of your shoe to modulate the pedal and texture wont let it do that. think about it, its the only pedal you really dont push very hard (some people)

Any problems with this?

prolly gonna do this but not to the gas pedal (for personal reasons)

but had this idea for a while too

old school classic but worthy of being sent to anyone who doesn't know

I also use grip tape like that on the back of my Carry gun, just a little sheet makes a world of differnce.

i like the stock rubber pieces. the grip tape is a good idea tho, not good for the gas pedal for heel toeing, etc.

I was searching around and found out that the tape that is used stairs has less grip than board tape so that might be a better solution for the gas pedal, the only thing is that the stair tape comes in rolls and only 3/4 inch wide.

I did this to my clutch peddal along time ago. It didnt have the rubber piece on it anymore and when it was rainy out wet shoes + metal peddal = slippery!

I'm curious to how well they work with wet and /or muddy shoes. anybody?

I know mud ruins the grip on a skateboard.

and truthfully mud will not take away from the texture very much...it will just mainly discolor it

They do well with wet shoes. If you get into your car with muddy shoes you should just end yourself. Its that simple

ha, sweet, I did this back in the day when I got fed up with crappy pedal covers. Great mod to do if your not into heal toeing... It's like a train wreck when you attempt a nice rev-matched heal toe downshift for the first time having all the grip.

I'd just buy pedals. I mean, you can buy a set off ebay for 10$ plus shipping. Or you can scrounge junk yards, I always find them there.

I did the grip tape thing a while ago. The roadracing/autox section put me on this. I have done this on both my cars. Grip tap from a skateboard shop is like $5-7. Soon as it gets worn out retrace your old layout and cut out a new one. Cheap easy mod.

also if you want to, you could lay the grip tape on the pedals and press it on, then rub the side of a screw driver along the edge you can use a razor blade to cut around the edges where you marked with the screw driver. i wouldnt use it for gas though...
