Question on steering?
Im not sure if this belongs in this forum, but i didnt know where else to post it. My steering in my EG hatch is messed up. You can turn my steering wheel pri a good 45 degrees in either direction and the car is still going straight. Now the car was put in a ditch at 25mph. the guy i bought the car from replaced the outter tierods. He told me that he believed it was the steering rack that had went back or broke. Im looking for anyhelp if anyone has had this happen. Is my steering rack broken or maybe my steering column?? anyhelp would be appreciated
take it to a shop IMMEDIATELY. i cant believe youre even asking this question.
of course something is broken. if you cant figure it out yourself with a gross 45 degree slop in the steering wheel, then have someone else show you.

simple reason for asking the question is because id rather do it myself and learn something than take it to a shop and learn nothing. now back to the question at hand do you think its my steering rack or my column has to be one or the other or both thanks for the input
at the very least, the pinch bolt at the end of hte pinion gear and u joint at the bottom of the steering column is loose.
at the worst, the rack is broken.
now since you said in your PM that your car is already on jackstands, then why cnt you take a look and figure it out?

thats a great idea sir and that is what i planned on doing. but id like to kinda know what to look for for example"the pinch bolt at the end of hte pinion gear and u joint at the bottom of the steering column is loose" was along the lines of what i was looking for for some advice. thanks tho maybe you could sound a little less irritated by my question and be a little more helpful thanks.
lol sometimes i think that myself, but then again i didnt get all the knowledge i have of hondas and b-series motors by taking my work somewhere else ya know what im saying. iv done countless swaps. and i know how to do them well and clean. its just that i want to learn how to do other things myself. such as fix my steering.

Get the OEM shop manual. It tells you exactly how to diagnose steering/suspension problems. Without it, you should NOT be doing any work on your car...
once again lets stick the the subject at hand some info would be nice not just get a OEM shop manuel. OEM shop manuels didnt teach me how to install a turbo on my LS motor the shop manuel did not tell me how to do over a dozen B-series swaps. The shop manuel also did not tell me how to install my aftermarket big break kit and suspension thanks tho

lol my bad wasnt paying attention to spelling! anywho! perhaps my logic is flawed but I have taught myself alot and learned from many people. The only thing really flawed with my choice to do it myself is that its a more expensive way becuase if i dont do it right more stuff will break or something along those lines. plz stick to the topic tho
