CMI Carnage 31mar&1Apr! Post em up if you got em!
Here's what went down on my last pass. Took off in first,no problem. 2nd, no problem. 3rd gear no problem(spun a little), when i slammed into 4th I thought I felt and heard a mishift, pulled out of gear and reengaged 4th and that's all she wrote...melt down. The funny thing is that on the return road the motor still ran. Once I shut down and was pulled to the pits i could no no longer fire it back up.
Still trying to get a handle on my Accord until this happened on my 4th and final pass against Coleman's Delsol.
Best time: 11.4@115, best MPH:11.5@127(on a blown motor)

congrats on the times
but sorry for the melt down....i hate it when that happens....good luck and see yah at the next race........

Doesn't look as bad......you can just remove the piston...and hone out the sleeve a little....drop in a new piston...and you are good to go.......
That saves you from taking out the motor.....
I have done that many times with the motor that's in my car.
As long as your cylinder wall is o.k.
BTW.....my piston #3 gave up....no carnage...just knockin........right after that 10.58 run.........shut it down in 4th gear.........after feeling loss of power.

Andy Chan @ Speed Element. The tune was very conservative. I know for sure the tune wasn't the culprit.

your pistons were the culprit......I dislike the CP piston for this reason....cylinder temps get to hot and the edges melt away....to thin near the valve relief...

I totally agree with you on the piston design. However, I need to reposition my fuel cell so the fuel pump is being gravity fed.

Ouch sorry to see that...
how did the plugs look and did the pistons have any signs of det?
Next time around lets put an EGT on there to make sure something like that doesnt happen again.
JE pistons, a couple years back had that same issue with the valve relief being too thin in that area... Is this a common problem on CP's?
The piston I like is the Endyn Rollerwave, it is very thick in that area and is not compromised.

very common with CP from what I have seen, I dont think there is anything you could have really done unless you had an A/F of 10.8:1 or lower to keep the temps down, but then where are you suppoed to make the power....

when the melt down happened it yield me an 11.5@127mph pulling out of 4th gear and then reengaging(thought I misshifted)

hey, that's racing. just need to redesign what caused this, fix the motor and back to the track for some 3rd gear burnouts again! I will hit a test and tune before BOTI that's for sure!

That's what I like to here. Do what you gotta do and get back out there. You and I are really close to our personal goals, so lets "Do Work Son!!" - Rob and Big reference.

Thanks redzone, that puts my mind at ease
