So I got my car about 2 years ago. Checked the cap and rotor after I got it. Looked ok. Well now I finally (after being poor, lazy, etc) changed them. I was disgusted in myself that I let it go that long. Check out the results.

I upgraded with all ECHLIN parts for the distributer stuff and Belden MAX wires from NAPA. The ECHLIN stuff doesn't use aluminum for the contacts so there is less corrosion and stuff. They are all brass. Nice stuff. Little spendy too. I am hoping to see a little increase in gas mileage probably. It has new NGK plugs and I got a premium air filter for it also. The other one was also pretty dirty.

Looking at the inside of the cap it looks like your rotor was loose too?

Mine was like that when I got my car too. You will see some good results!

So what dude? All that is, is normal wear and tear. It should make a small difference in your gas mileage though.
But you will get better results if you would have used all Honda OEM ignition stuff.

I worked for NAPA for 15 years. I know the quality of the parts. Honda is better.

First of all, being that I work at NAPA that is the only way I could afford the parts needed for this tune-up. I would rather not got spend away my bank account (or lack there-of) on dealer parts for a stock d15 motor that has 208,000 miles on it.


I will post the gas mileage results. I have been running the A/C a lot lately and can already see an increase in gas mileage.

Normally I pull about 160 miles per half tank. Looking like I might pass that.

I am planning on changing my timing belt and water pump soon. It has been over 60,000 miles since it was last changed. I also wanna do a valve adjustment.

Poop bro, just absolute poop. J/k that engine should last a while if you treat it well. I didn't really like it but if all you want it for is driving from A to B, then you're set. You should have seen the old cap/rotor on my Dodge Colt, *shudder*.

Honda manual says only needs to be changed every 90K

if you don't want the stock wires i will pay for shipping if you send em to me. they look almost new. honda wires will most likley out last the life of the engine given that the dont melt, get cut ect.

 

Well looks like I got a 3 mile a gallon increase on the gas mileage but it looks like it will be even better on this next one!
