Default 1997 civic cx tranny problem

Hey guys my buddy has a 1997 civic cx he just recently bought. It has one problem though which he was aware of before buying. The gear doesn't seem to engage and the car doesn't move. In neutral or with the clutch pressed the RPM's move just like any other car. When in gear the rpm's move but so does the speedo, as if he is driving but the car does not move. It stays still as both the rpms and speed increase. No grinds or anything of that matter. Can someone diagnose this problem for him please. Does he need a new tranny or can I be fixed with just a release bearing or clutch?

Thanks

I'd say you're buddy's clutch doesn't exist.

It's shot, time for a replacement.

Alright so it's garunteed the clutch? I don't want to tell him to go buy a clutch if he doesn't need it.

I'm sure it's the clutch, but bump for more input.

You're flywheel could also be totally glazed over. But either way, both need to be replaced.

UPDATE: My buddy brought it to his mechanic and he said it is a driveshaft. Thanks for the input though.
