I would guess from a ship's diesel. Not sure if they're turbo though.

That's from those machines in that movie War of the Worlds. They started doing tests on them after they took them down and discovered they where turbo-charged. That's the turbo that was used, it was dug up from amongst the rubble which is why it's all dusty. That's why they where able to come up from the ground like that.

i had a pic of even a bigger one, two guys are sitting on the edge of the inlet and they look tiny but i couldn't find it.

Some of those things aren't really turbos. I forget what they actually are, but they look just like turbos...but aren't.
