I thought about that but...wouldnt that be more of a constant tic rather than a short series of 3 then a pause then another series or 3. I dont know but it does go away when the engine is warm.

Is it exactly three tics every time, in perfect rhythm? Does it do the same thing when you turn the engine off and let it cool?
Cars I have owned have done the same thing, only while heating up/cooling down. I think it's just different metals/sizes/temps contracting and expanding. Should be normal.

Valve lash adjustment is a scheduled maintenance supposed (i use it loosely but thats what the book says) every 30,000 miles.
If it is rythmic my bet is one rocker set is off and therefore only tics when hit with the cam lobes on that rocker.
Valve lash adjustment will get you straight.

You should be alright. Get a stethoscope and try to narrow down the noise and pull the valve cover and just square up that valve.
a lash adjustment shouldn't take more than an hour if you haven't done it before.
Tools:
box wrench
flat head screwdriver
feeler guages.
19mm socket (for crank)
Ratchet
cover gasket can be reused in most cases.

Anything's possible...I'm assuming it's a B16B (from your name)...so therefore it's JDM, if I'm not mistaken.
So if you bought it from a motor dealer/importer they usually say 30K-40K....but there's no way to know if that's true, and you have no idea if the motor has had the **** driven out of it prior to you having it.
