Weight Reduction
First post, How's everyone doing
Yes I used te search button, didnt come up with much...
Well Im thinking about doing an all motor setup in my newly aquired DC2, its a 1995 GSR, all stock Xcept for some suspension (teins, sway bars, 4 point roll bar)...
Anyway Im building a short block on the side right now and want to do some weight reduction. So where can I lose some weight on this fatty? I plan on removing the AC, the Sound stuff under the carpet and maybe some other little things...
How light can I get my 'teg without it looking like a stripped race car? Let me know if anyone out there has gotten there car pretty light, what your weight is and what you took out...
Peace From the dark side

First off, Welcome and thanks for attempting the Search button
here's what I did on my ITR
1)Removed power steering belt and pump (relooping system)
2)carbon fiber hood
3)front AND rear bumper supports
4)backseats when I'm racing
5)spare tire and jack
6)lighter flywheel
7)lighter wheels
8)lighter header
9)I would've removed AC if I didn't live in FL, but chose not to

lightweight wheels, remove ABS and Cruise, lightweight battery, racing seats, carbon fiber hood, remove the sound deadening matterial, remove the back seat and spare tire, remove the passanger seat, etc
quality I/H/C/E parts are often quite a bit lighter.

Yes.. remove the abs so you crash into the back of someone when you are done racing.. that will make it all worth it!! ...
He asked for ways to remove weight, removing the ABS is one way. No one said it was the best way, if your not going to be helpful don't post.
i've done simple weight reductions on my car and have got my car down to 2300 lbs, which is lighter than my friend's ek hatches. Keep in mind my car is an RS and didn't come with a sunroof, abs, cruise control, AC etc. I removed my power steering system, replaced my rear hatch with a jdm one that is slightly lighter because it doesn't have a rear wiper and motor assembly. Also, empty or remove that windshield wiper fluid resevoir, it may sound lame but that thing weighs about 12 lbs when it is full. The sound material doesn't really weight that much, and it's not fun to remove. The only way to really get your car light is to start removing the things that you don't really want to take out. The ac and power steering are hard to part with but it frees up some weight.

Agreed.
Agreed.
the only way to make up for this is a good power to lbs. ratio
it only takes crx's 220 whp to hit 12's with traction.....why is this? " a good power to lbs. ratio"
make more power for more weigth...

ummmm, news flash it only takes 210whp to get a type R into the 12's with slight weight reduction, so if your crx is 220whp you should be WELL into the 12's on your way to 11's with traction
get those sweet jdm mirrors thats like 2 pounds.. or take a **** befoe you get in your car. also you reall dont even need a hood so take that off. forget carbon fiber!
no shirt and shoes is lighter too!

also the general rule is 1/10 for every 100 ponds removed.
Also, what's the point in removing 300lbs worth of goods when you weigh in at 400lbs.
