95 Accord V6...possible belt problem
The 95 Accord LX V6 in question has about 175,000 miles. Has recently had a new fuel filter, a new ignitor, new spark plugs and wires, new oil pressure valve (or some such thing that was dripping oil on the oil filter), new distributor cap, motor clean out for heavy carbon deposits, and it all started with some valve in the EGR system (which triggered the check engine light). Oh yes, and while doing the mechanic accidentally damaged the three belts on the left side of the engine looking at it, so those have been replaced, too (at his cost, not mine). So basically, the parts are wearing out at high mileage.
It's making what I would describe as a low pitched screeching noise when it idles in park, or when it is idling with foot on the brake and no gas. Sounds like a vibration or friction noise--not metal, but rubber in nature. It has made this noise before, but stopped when the radiator was replaced six months ago (the plastic top cracked clear across..). It has another small oil leak, too (sigh), but the noise is driving me plum nuts.
I've learned more than I want to know about fixing this thing lately. If I had the cash to apply to a regular car payment....but I'd appreciate a suggestion so I'm not totally blind going in to see the mechanic.

On occassion new belts can make that noise, they make a belt grease type thing - Advanced Auto would have it - and you can rub it on the belts yourself and it should help with that squeel. I would lean more towards that being the problem since he just replaced those
Hubby is concerned it might be the brakes, rather than the belt. They are about three years old I think and right at replacement age and mileage (of course!). Any thoughts on that? I can't see how they would make that type of noise, but what do I know?
