painting my hatch
alright tomorrow I am painting my hatch gloss black and i had a few questions before I start...
I know a guy that painted his hatch and it turned out amazing so I asked him what paint he used and w/e and he said to buy 5 cans of rust stopper flat black primer (i have a little bit of surface rust) than a coat of gloss over that.
Will this work?
I have spent about 10 hours in my hatch grinding / dry ici-ing / and smoothing the entire hatch. getting rid of the glue, sound deadening stuff, and any other imperfections.
besides taping everything off really well, anyone else got some tips?

Yeah man I read that you have to do a series of stuff. What I heard was that you should have at least two coats of primer and two coats of paint maybe three if your going for a deep deep black. Then three or more coats of clear, and in between lots of wet sand and such. I dunno, I was thinking about painting mine but I'm worried since painting is truly a skill. How did it turn out? Can you post some pics?
So many factors when it comes to paint..Really should have posted this in Paint section. Basically it all comes down to how well the body was prepped. Better the prep work, better the paint will lay and look smooth. Base/clear is the best option but a lot of people on a budget go with a single stage. To get that mirror like gloss, you need to wetsand the clear then buff/polish.
