Default 88 CRX 93 Civic VSS install need to cut VSS?

Eventual goal is to wire in a 97 Integra LS cluster into my 88 Rex.

Have read lots of write-ups on doing this and most of them mainly talk about the wiring aspect of it. I looking for info as to what parts of this VSS I have to chop off in order to make it fit around the tranny mount.

I found this picture that shows some of it. However this picture only shows the top portion.

Here are pictures of what I have as well as the highlighted parts that I believe I have to remove in order to make it fit properly.

This whole area with the screw and the plastic has to be cut off?

My confusion is this : Do I only have to cut off the area that is highlighted in box #2 as well as what is in box #1 or just the area in box #1

Please correct me if I am wrong but I beleive the area that is in box #2 is the part that I will need to mount it back to the tranny with the 10mm bolt.

You don't have to cut the vss...you have the wrong one. There are other electronic VSS from other model civic that will fit perfectly on your tranny. Unfortunately, i don't have that information off hand. You can probably run a search on types of vss available for your car.

Yeah I don't think you have to cut anything off ot the right one.
You see that black rubber ring around the top part of the shaft? That's where it sits and seals when it's inside your tranny...so that parts above that are what are on the top (outside) of your tranny so theres no need to cut anything.

hopefully you can get some better ideas with guys with pictures on there...good luck!

This is the link where I got some of my info. : http://hondacrx881.tripod.com/gsrclusterswap.html

It says in there that possibly a less bulky 96-00 Civic VSS would fit without modification and that he only used this one because it was the only one that he could find. I found this one for cheap so figured I would go with it and try to make it work.

The modifications seem to be pretty minimal and will save me a few bucks over buying a 96-00 VSS.
