Default Help: Clutch Pedal very sensitive - No resistance when pushing pedal

Hey all, I need some advice/help. Here is the background: I had the Clutch Master Cylinder replaced about 5,000 miles ago (reliable mechanic, no issues with the replacement) and everythign seemed to go fine.

Recently (past week) I have noticed the clutch pedal has lost much of its resistence when I push it in. It feels very easy to push in, and seems overly sensitive. I see no signs of leaking fluids, etc. in the engine bay and the fluid resevior is full.

Any ideas as to what the issue could be? Any help or idea greatly appreciated!

Where did it go? j/k

Thanks for the advice, that was my thought as well. The clutch has about 90K miles or more on it, with the first half containing a lot of track usage, so I guessing it is at the end of its life.

if the pressure plate is gone, I would think you would hear bits and pieces rattling around in the trans. sounds like there is air entering the system or already in there. rebleed the system and see if that helps. if it helps and then the problem comes back, you got a leak somewhere.

I've had these same EXACT symptoms just from having air in the line before... bleed your system out before you take drastic measures, i mean why not, it's free.

Hmm, good idea. Let me ask this though: if the pedal felt good after the Clutch Master Cylinder was replaced, then would it be logical to assume that air leaked in (or fluid out) somehow? I guess what I am getting at is, if there is air in the system, would bleeding only temporarily fix things until air got back in?

Alright, well I did the bleed because I was bored and had nothing better to do tonight. Lots of bubbles, weee. I got tired of waiting for the gravity bleed to do the job so I pumped the clutch pedal (5 times per set, about 5 sets) and that seemed to do the job much quicker. In total went through about 36 oz. of Valvoline Dot 3/4 fluid.

So I guess I will see Sunday morning how it all worked. I am guessing there is a leak somewhere, but I will let my mechanic figure that out on Wed. My guess would be that there is a leak in the slave cylinder.

Thanks for the help guys

youll probably get much better results if you have one person pumping the pedal while the other closes the bleeder.

You're on the right track now, has your pedal feel changed drastically?

You've never boiled your clutch fluid before? n00b!

Just kidding...

I did boil mine due to an exhaust leak once. That was fun (and surprising!)

Mad skillz yo, what can I say? Brake fluid, that is a whole other story...

Pedal feels better for sure. I didn't worry about getting all the air out really just because I think there is a leak that needs to be fixed before the problem gets resolved. So I am going to let the mechanic figure that one out for me.

I am wondering this too - as my clutch is 1/2 moosh right now. Haven't driven the car in 2 weeks because I don't have the tools to do anything big myself. It stresses me out when I can't drive my R.

Hmm, invoice says mechanic replaced the pressure plate ($250), Clutch disc ($112), Pilot bearing ($20), To Bearing ($60). He also machined the flywheel.

check fluid level and for any leaks around the clutch reservoirs and lines, slave and master cyl, and also check the clutch fork inside the rubber boot to make sure the ball on the clutch line didnt pop out of the socket.
