Default drag racing basics 101?

Flame suit on...
Alright so im thinking of taking my car to the local drag strip next week and put it against my friends car.

I know nothing about drag racing.
Just wanted to know the basics and tips... w/e...

My car:
91 crx dx
~45kmile 1.6l Sohc zc
MPFI
Non-Vtec
Aem cold air
Headers
2" exhaust with high flow cat
Stock suspension
Complete interior

Friends car i plan on going against
Mostly stock 83 VW Rabbit GTI
Lowered, i beleive thats all thats done.

We both pretty much just got our cars in good running condition and just think it would be fun to put our cars against each others, since there pretty much equals when stock.

and what would mine most likely go...

and the questions was, what are the basic techniques and what not to use in drag racing. like what rpm to start out at, what general rpm to shift at? i know basically nothing...

i can only assume go off the line at 4.5Krpm and shift around 6k? idk...

You'll have to practice with your launch. You don't want to spin too much (that will slow you down) but you don't want to bog, either. Look up on a car spec site and see at what RPM you get your max HP.
