What to look out for in an '88 Accord?
Hi all, I am thinking about purchasing a 1988 Accord DX 5 speed for $500 sometime this week. The car has 231,XXX miles on it and it seems to run and drive pretty well. So, I have a few questions about it, though. 1) The car will not idle, but you can start it and keep running just fine by slightly feathering the throttle (it is however slightly difficult to drive like that since it is a stick). It has a carb and I think that it just needs to be cleaned and readjusted. Is there any other issue that would cause this problem? 2) How much longer can i conservatively estimate the engine to last before needing a rebuild or swap? 3)what is the most common motor swap for these older Accords? Thanks for any and all help

IMO, I'd save up some extra cash and get a 90'-'93 (4th gen). The 4th gens were probably the most solid built Accords that Honda ever made. Plus you get a fuel injected car. Not that a 3rd gen Accord isn't a reliable car, but c'mon a carburated car in 2007?! Trust me, you'll be glad you saved up the money to get something a lil' more modern.
