Turning street car into track car.
Ok, first off. Im not doing this for any particular class, just for fun at the test and tune.
Car is a 88 crx si last year ran 12.6 on stock turbo gsr with 22" slicks. Basically im not looking to do anything as far as adding power, just saving weight. Id like to knock around a second off my ET.
The car is a full street car, has everything except.. The sunroof was removed, and theres no AC. The car has solid steel engine mounts, i put plates around the stock ones, and gator stage 2 axles, an ACT clutch as well as omni coils, all urathane bushings as well, its a very solid car.
So i need some tips as far as what i can do to save weight, im not looking to cut up the car or remove anything that i cant put back together. Heres what ive got in mind.
Mirrors, wipers, wiper motor, heater core, blower motor, anything under the dash i dont need, carpet, rear interior, passenger seat, door pannels, sound deatning on floor, bumper beams.
I may even remove the rear hatch glass, and the rear quarter glass and do a nice job of riviting in some lexan. I will also cut holes across the bottom of the rear bumper.
Ever since i seen a d15 non vtec spraying 100 shot running low 13's in a ghetto drag car ive always wanted to turn my turbo crx into a drag car. I cant afford insurance on 2 cars and even if i could, the crx is just going to get me into trouble on the streets, i was lucky i made it thought last year.
Im unsure if i need a rear exiting exhaust or not, or i will remove the exhaust as well (3") i might give a few poines but save some more weight.
Anyone else have any tips on how to help put my car on a diet?? Thanks

You've nailed just about everything. Maybe move your battery down in front of the passenger wheel well to keep weight on your drive wheels. 88 is already a light platform to start with. The rear hatch glass should help alot. Not to sure how heavy the quarter glass is. A full second is going to be hard to get with the weight reduction alone. Hope I helped and good luck.
