Default Rear Shock Detached???

Installed Eibach shocks and Sportline springs yesterday and when we lowered the car off the lift this is what the rear looked like. The shock is not compressing its just coming up through the car. Am I missing a washer or something that should catch the shock?

You put the bump stop plate on the top, it belongs on the bottom. Here's how it all goes together:

The top hat #9 is in place. I can see it in the photo. It's a very common NOOB mistake to forget the lower washer #14. Without a washer both above (#1) and below (#14) the bushings (#16), the shock shaft will NOT be held in place!!! Go back and install the #14 washers (larger thick metal washer with tapered seat)!

You put the thick washer that should be on the bottom on the top:

You have to take it completely apart again and put the washer in the red box in position #14 in the diagram that 94eg! posted.

lol good eye.

the thicker, funny shaped and tapered washer goes UNDER the bushings and top hat. it should match the taper of the shock rod.

I don't know guys. How could he have gotten the #14 washer off if he couldn't get the dust covers off?

I'd bet that washer in the red box is the top cup-washer just installed upside down (another common mistake)?

either way, the bumpstop plate is not installed correctly.

the shock needs to be assembled properly.

He did say that he had a lift, so I'm guessing he had some help from a shop, unless he has a lift at home, in which case I want to hang out at his house. And that top one in the pic does look a lot like the thick one that goes on the bottom. I wouldn't bet a lot of money on it, but I'd bet some.

Well the moral of the story is that the OP is gonna have to take them apart and do it right. Top washer has a cup shape to it, and the cup must face upward away from the bushing. Bottom washer is thick metal with a funny shape to it...

Who did the install?

Step away from the car and bring it to a proper shop.
