Default B20/vtec

i have a b20/type r setup and for some resason shifting into 3rd from 2nd vtec the car would shut off like i was passing the redline, but i wasnt. after a few times doing it my head gasket blew. 1st and 2nd were fine through vtec, thts why i was confused. curious on what type spark plugs would be the best too. NGK, the B18C5 or B20B ones???? i knew my head gasket blew cause the pistons sound like they are tapping the ends of the spark plugs. if i take them out no more noise. very curious about why the car would shut off though, i was thinking maybe the head gasket was going bad and just couldnt hold the pressure anymore. i had reused that gasket twice because the 1st time i put the motor together there was a leak so i had to take off the head to fix the leak .i couldnt find anything so i put it back on and still leaked so the second time i took it off i finally found the leak. so thats why i think the gasket went because of these things, anybody some feedback please.
