Default Blown Motor pictures ---- lean AFR's?

you know how sometimes the metal u brackets that hold your injectors clips on get lost, or they just crack because they are plastic? well i had this happen, so i just used zip ties to hold them down, until oneday i changed a fuel jector' seal and didnt have any zip ties handy, so i just drove the car home from a friends house really carefully because i didnt want the clip to come off and shut the injector off. well a week later of not driving i forgot to re zip tie the clips on, took my friend out for a spin, ripped through every gear up to third on the highway, car wouldnt go past 130 mph, usually it is pretty linear up to 145 or so, so i shifted to fourth, still just stuck at 130mph, kinda started dying out, then all a sudden it was like a grenade of white smoke. lol, luckily i was in the process of building a new motor, drove it home on three cylinders for about 15 miles. anyways here are some pics.

^this is how the pistion came out, i didnt force it out to make the rings shaped like that.

oil pan^

girdle ^

ps they were DSM injectors and injector clips, i shoulda used the obd1 honda injector clips they actually fit just as good and aren't as brittle with age.

the funnier part was it sat for three weeks and then started right back up, i was gonna un hook the wastegate and finish blowing the other three cylinders but i decided i might not want to mess up the remaining valves in the head. plus this is like the third d series i blew, so i wasn't really shocked, or upset, even though this engine was freshly rebuilt 10,000 miles ago.

also, anyone that knows blown motors, i am like 90% sure it was from the injector clip coming loose, but does it look like lean AFR's? the pistion is smaller diameter than what it used to be. it could have blown from detonation cause it wasn't tuned well, just a base map, but like i said the injector clips were also making horrible contact every time i would hit a bump or accelerate probably.

its gonna run lean if an injector shuts off, 25% fuel cut

So besides being down on power, before it blew the motor didn't sound different? No audible pinging?

Damn! That looked like fun! Scarry at the same time if it was in fact a simple injector clip that did all that

JB WEld the oil pan and girdle too. Need to keep the oil in.
Lack of oil for 15 miles...another reason Honda Engines kick ***
Good luck on the next D.

So my question is why didn't you buy new clips so it was done the right way?

You were taking the car up to those speeds on a basemap? Then you think it blew because of your injector clip? If the car wasn't tuned then I wouldn't go blamming the injector clip. I'd blame the nut behind the wheel.

actually that cylinder would just shut off and shouldnt cause any damage if he stopped trying to accelerate. my guess is it wouldnt pull past 130 because the clip came off and u were on 3 cylinders. and the act off you trying to make it accelerate more in that state snapped a rod

Just curious as to why at steady rpm it would not cause damage in that state, but under acceleration it could snap a rod?
