I've got a rattle coming from the intermediate "muffler" on my Comptech. It's not the heat shield, sounds like it's coming from inside the pipe itself. Any of you experience this?

 

Is it like a super high pitched noise?? Sounds like metal on metal? I've been hearing it lately usually between 3000-4000 rpm's and I'm not sure what it is. I have a comptech exhaust and maybe that's what it is!

 

I've been hearing this too, I thought my heatshields were loose, but I checked and they weren't...I don't know what the problem is.

 

Well, this sound is a "rattle", kind of like a heat shield. But I checked it on the lift, and there were no clearance problems with any shield. It is coming from the resonator, I'm sure. Seems to happen at lower (below 2000) rpm. And, I think I only here it when it's cold. Here's the good news,...called Comptech, talked to a guy named Bob in Tech. He said it would be no problem for them to replace it, I just need to fax him my receipt. Those guys ******* rock.

 

Hey, [626]99-GSR-69, you're killing me with those Advans! I couldn't possibly want any wheel in existence more than I want the RG in gold. I just replaced my silver Lensos with a set of gold ones...kinda the same gold as the Advan.

 

I don't have a Comptech exhaust, but I do have the exact same problem on my 98 GS-R with 65k miles. I can make the sound happen on command, but coasting down in any gear or revving in neutral until the tach hits 1900 rpm. It does not occur during acceleration unless I hit vtec engagement. It is driving me nuts. I have not had time to check if it was the heat shields or not, but that was my guess.

I guess that there was a batch of b-pipes where the weld for the trapazoidal canister support(piece connecting the b-pipe and the canister) cracked and opened a little hole in the canister...they replaced mine without a problem.

"Bob" didn't tell me about any defect, but seemed eager to solve my problem. I guess he'll send it before I send him mine (duh!). I'm glad to hear it's just a little defect. Can't tell you what I'd do without this board. Thanks guys...

I have noticed the rattle to on my comptech exhaust. It really doesnt bother me enuff to where it pisses me off YET. Is there anything I can do without a reciept? I guess not cuz they will automatically assume its stolen or some shiz. Anyone know if theyll help me out with no reciept? Thanks for any help!!

 

Where and how much did you guys get your comptech exhausts for? I'm thinking that's what I'll end up getting this summer.
