Default Interesting intake manifold design (directed towards those of you who make custom headers)

So i saw a POS toyota with a equal length tubular intake manifold (stock). It looked just like a custom header, and I was curious as to if anyone has had experience or knows if it would work well. Or, if one of you custom header builders want to take a gamble, make one, and see how well it does. Just a suggestion

Well, that IM could be part of the reason its a POS.

lol

My thoughts on that thing: The plenum is so small it would require a ridiculously huge throttle body. Those runners are quite long also.

well obviously it would be modified from that, you can make it however you want, im just wondering if a design like that would be any better than a traditional style IM.

interesting. I know that wave dynamics is very important when you get into building very high performance intake manifolds and exhaust manifolds, but i have never seen an intake manifold made that way. i suggest a cross post into forced induction, there are MANY smart people over there and it would be interesting to get their input. Honestly it goes against everything i have seen in intake manifold design.

Yeah, I agree with tom.

Induction needs an air source, like the plenum, or the open air for ITBs, then nice straight runners to get the air down to the valve.

That looks more like a header, but backwards. Seperate runners and then a collector further down.

No me gusta!

I'll stick with straight runner designs.

that header is good for low end torque only.

everything else will suffer horribly

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by alterdcreations &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">that header is good for low end torque only.

It's a intake manifold not a header.

If there's one idea you should pick up from a Corolla, it should be the individual coil packs. Corollas have had them since 4th gen days

it doesnt make much power. my parent's corolla has that manifold on it. the whole point of the corolla's engine is to keep the car light and provide efficiency and gas mileage. the engine is also quite light. the manifold itself is extremely light.

it looks like a header design for an exhaust manifold.

just stick with the plenum type, imo. if ferrari's use plenums, preludes should use plenums too
