Painted Bumpers
I was going to get my car compounded and buffed for $80, but the guy said it might make my car more faded since it never had a clear coat. So I think I'm just going to have my bumpers painted for $200. I'm going to leave the strip that sticks out the most black to match the side moldings. I was going to have a friend do this for me, but he won't be able to for a long time now. You think this is worth it?
Since I'm not having my car compounded and buffed, I gotta try to get some of the scratches and little haze marks out myself. Would anyone recommend any kind of rubbing compound, scratch remover, or car wax? And has anyone used the Turtle Wax Color Cure with the chipstick? Just wondering if that would work.

What part of Upstate NY are you in? Do you have current close-up pics that you could send me or post. If I see it up close, I'll tell you if your paint is dead or not. The only way buffing your car would make it duller is if your paint is completely dead.
No, I don't have any close up pics and my paint always looks way better than it is in pictures. It's already slightly faded on the hood and the spoiler though, and starting to look a little pink in some places. So I don't think I should take any chances. Oh, and I live near Utica.
damn 200 US that expensive.
You could buy a compressor, air sprayer, air hose, compressor tank, and paint all for 250 US and then you have Air tools to keep.
Have fun

No, buffing will make it look better overall. But since it'll take off 1mm of paint and we don't know how much is left, he's warning me that it might end up fading after. The way the paint is now, it'll still look good enough for a while. I can't afford a whole paint job if it does fade, but if I spend the 200 now and get the bumpers painted my car will definitely look better. Don't you think?
If you were to paint stock DX bumpers would the paint stick well or would it chip and crack? Im interested in color matching the bumpers on my '91 DX sedan but im not sure of how well the paint wil hold up to everyday driving conditions. Is it based on the type of paint used and the quality of work by the shop that does it?

Na, most of my car's not dull. It looks fine there's just a few spots where it's starting to fade a little, like the hood. My fenders were painted brand new and they match up pretty close to the rest of the paint.
