LACR will truly be missed...almost brings a tear to my eyes watching get demolished. As one goes down, hopefully the doors to another track in so cal will open up..
Damm that's tough to watch. After IDRC I will try to make it out as much as I can and enjoy it. I always said and always will say..... LACR is my favorite track. It was always dependable to be open twice a week and even at times on Saturdays for test and tunes. It might not have the best altitude or track conditions but it was always open.
Bernie taught me my track manners and courteous staging about 10 years ago. Time sure does fly.

Never been... but it saddens me that you guys no longer have the place you guys hold in your hearts.
I know how I'd feel if my Beaver Springs was demolished.

all this is gonna do is make even more street races and bullshit..They should have never done this i remember i used to go every wednesday and friday night. My car was slow as hell but it was fun as fucked. This track will be missed.
I dont know about the street racing thing. I mean, track or not, if people are into street racing, theyll do it anyways. And if you werent into street racing, you wouldnt start just because there was no track to go to.

Reason i ask... All these hardcore Cali people who preach "Cali is the home of import street racing" yada yada.. Well ifthe track was open since 1980, and people started to street race even WITH the track open, then what the hell is the difference now? lol
Street racing will be the same anywhere you go, in any town, in any state, in any country, tracks or not... Even in the "birthplace of import drag racing" hahaha

Drag City in Banning is supposed to open in June or July, but I'll believe it when I see it.

I am sorry but I disagree. I know that street racing will get bigger again (at least here) because of this being closed down. whats left Irwindale? and once in a blue moon Pomona and Fontana.
hmmm i know alot of guys who use to street race but as we get older we tried to do the safe thing and hit the track. now that the track is going to be no more what do u think will happen again??? they need to re open the island oh man that would be so dope....!!!!!! and drag city in banning thats 84.1miles one way lacr 64 miles one way.....and thats from downtown L.A. on top of all that i live another 50 miles from L.A.
haha. maybe the only ones that will be prevented from street racing are the guys in Palmdale. but no matter what, there will always be the excuse of, the track is too far, its not open all the time, i dont like the elevation. guys in the metropolitan LA area werent going to LACR and drive 1 hr just to get to the track. theyre going to street race no matter what. if they were already doing it.
Sad to see this historic track destroyed. Where it all began. I spoke with a friend of mine , Brenda Salas , who is the Mayor of Banning. Opening day of Drag City is due to be in late August or early September. There's no more interuptions by the people of Banning ,so construction has been under way for a while now. I'll keep you all posted. Until then , let's go and enjoy LACR as long as we can. See you all this Saturday at the IDRC race.
Sucks, even though the track was mediocre at best, it still is special to most everyone that went. If you could go fast there, you could go fast anywhere! Lots of good memories up there.... *sigh*
I live 25 minutes from LACR, all the other tracks are pretty far for me! Drag City sounds nice, but almost 2 hours. Do they weekend grudge nights at Famoso?

I believe it opened in 1964...
Anyway, Banning is underway, if they are open by the summertime is anybody's guess, but they did relocate California Dragway in about a month, so anything is possible.
Brotherhood should be re-opened but how many of you are serious enough to see it through?
Its been brought up countless times on this forum and nothing has happen, not even a phone call or anything to the city or major's office.
If you seriously want it re-opened then your going to have to take time out from wrenchin on your car, chasing tail and watching your children for a few hours and focus on getting the track open.
There will be more street racing after its closure, mostly in the AV area (Palmadale/Landcaster) but honestly they can do it in the middle of the desert and nobody would care until somebody got hurt, I used to live there I KNOW. The track was open, we did some street racing anyway.
I want Brotherhood open because its close, but travel time will be about the same considering traffic on the 405 around 3-4pm on a Friday Night...
Its space not currently being used, so let's use it. Let's get a thread going about who to contact and then let's get a group of Sport Compact vets and maybe even some of the management from NHRA to come with us to talk to whom ever is in charge of that area.
You with me?

I'll be there on Saturday!
