how do jdm engine owners check engine codes?
just wonderin, after I seafoamed my car, it ran a check engine light for a while, and that made me think, if I ever have a problem, and a shop needs to run their computer through the jdm ecu, they wont comply, so how do we run jdm ecu's for check engine lights?
huuuuhhh?? obd0 ecu's all have the led light. so i though. so maybe you mean how do you check codes for obd1 or 2?
You check OBD 1 by counting CEL flashes and match it to the corresponding code. The JDM ECUs are still pretty much the same, I have been using JDM ECUs for years now and have not had a problem reading codes, and I've had plenty. and in Japan OBD II does not exist like over here soi am pretty sure you either read it the same as OBD 1 or I imagine you could still read it on an OBD 2 scanner? I don't mess with OBD 2 for this exact reason so I am not too sure.
well my brother's shop tried to scan my ecu from a jdm b16a and it couldnt work with it at all. he was trying to remove the check engine light after seafoaming. I guess I dont know what the "counting flashes" thing is
it is pretty self expalnitory juss count how many times your light flashes and then take that number and look it up in a haynes manual or there are threads that are in the archives that will tell you what the numbers mean hope this helps
