Method for activating the ABS solenoids?
So I've been working through some brake issues with no luck and have seen a few mentions of activating the solenoids on the ABS system one by one to help solve pedal pressure issues, but I haven't been able to locate how it's actually done.
Can anyone tell me how to do it or direct me to a post that has it? I know you can activate the pump even with the car off by jumping the relay, but I am trying to fire each solenoid.
Thanks!

I had the same issue on my ITR for all of the 2004 racing season. In 2005, finally just took it to a shop and they actually bled the ABS unit. I forgot exactly how he did it, but he said he removed one of the lines and noticed bubbles at the ABS unit. After that, pedal pressure/travel came back to normal.
Before that I actually wet down my street with a hose, and then accelerated and slammed on the brakes to go into ABS. I did this multiple times... my neighbors loved me!
That didn't work.
Oh, I remember, I even bought a small battery and was going to run a charge across the ABS unit to activate the solenoid.... couldn't find out where to do that on the ABS unit.
So I recommend doing "some sort of bleeding" with the ABS unit.

All Type R Integras (including 97) have the same 4-channel ABS system as all other 98-01 Integras. 94-97 Non R Integras have a 3 channel ABS with separate reservoir...
The 98+ manual makes no mention of cycling the ABS system even when replacing the entire modulator unit. It sounds like your problem could stem from the bleed sequence. Honda's bleed sequence for Integras with the later 4 channel ABS is as follows:
LF
RF
RR
LR
If you bled the brakes with the common but incorrect sequence of furthest to nearest from the master cylinder, your gonna leave air trapped in the lines somewhere...

thanks david.. heh.. the conversation you, anton, onyx00 and a few others from a year or two ago is the one where I saw someone talking about being able to activate the solenoids individually (I think it was onyx00 himself)..

yeah, the ITR ABS is different. I've bled the ABS on a 95 Accord as well and at this point I wish the ITR had something similar (although it's performance is better than the accord's).

Nope. I've consistently bled by the helms. I've also bled in the "wrong" way, just to see if it changed anything. Essentially, I think I've got air in the ABS and it won't come out. I have done the following without being able to get rid of my very soft pedal (I can easily put it to the floor):
Replaced the booster pressure valve thing
Replaced the booster
Replaced the MC twice
Replaced the front calipers
Rebuilt the rear calipers
Bled 6 big bottles of the SynPower brake fluid using the following methods: Speedbleeders, OEM bleeders both in the Helm's order and the Farthest to closest order, vaccum pump bleed at the bleeder. I also bled the lines at the ABS and the Prop valve.
This is why I was trying to find out if I could activate the ABS solenoids as I saw mentioned, without driving the car (HC race car, very loud, just driving it is more difficult/illegal than a street car).

It is definitely something with air in the ABS unit itself. I bled the brakes according to Helms, according to other methods, fully replaced the fluid, replaced the master cylinder, prayed, did everything.... the answer was bubbles in/near the ABS unit.
Well that sucks. I dug all over the brake section of the Helms and I couldn't find anything about manually cycling the ABS system. I completely believe that cycling the ABS could remove air/old-fluid. One of the ABS write-ups on Stoptech.com goes into detail about having to do this certain ABS systems. They make mention of a device that hooks up to the ABS modulator that looks like a Nintendo Gameboy...
Here is their writeup for some general info: http://www.stoptech.com/tech_i...shtml
If nobody can get you the info you need, you might want to go talk to a tech over at Acura...

thanks for the link to that article. I'm going to try the better of the two local dealers shortly and see what they say.
I just talked to a tech at a local dealer and he said they have no special tool to use and that even when installing a new one they just go out and drive it and engage the ABS a bunch of times and then rebleed it.
it would seem like there would be a better way....

Did you bleed it again afterwards? That is what the Stoptech article says to try...

anyway you or someone else might be able to find out what it is or where I can get one?
I called the other dealer in my area and their response was "For $110 an hour you can bring it in and we'll start diagnosing". I told them thanks, but no thanks.

I'd imagine you can order the tool through Honda, but I've got to imagine it's expensive as hell. King has one, but it isn't working...
I've got to imagine a dealership would have the tool on hand. I'm sure Acura of Brookfield here in Milwaukee would have it, not sure if it's worth the drive for you though...

I was actually living in NC at the time (long story) and was getting my car corner weighted and asked the guy to perform other things....he just did a simple thing to get the air out of my ABS unit, nothing special, no special tools. I'll try and dig up my receipt when I get home.

Yep! I'll try them next.. And a different autozone..
edit: autozone lists their tools available for rent on the website, but no ABS/brake tools are listed..?
