well i blew a headgasket, and checked the block and where the number 2 and 3 sleeves meet it has .003 clearance between the sleeve and a straightedge, these are AEBS solid deck sleeves and i am planning to push the engine to 650whp or so, head is at machine shop now getting surfaced back flat, will be using stock thickness .030 headgasket, would just like to know some opinions of this.

I assume you are using a TRUE straight-edge? If so, I would have a machine shop deck the block. Also, make sure they sleeves are not step-decked.
you should contact aebs and tell them the problem you are having before you go and deck the block, because you might mess it up more then it already is,most of the time decking it will not help, also there is nothing wrong with step decking, we do a .003 step deck on all our blocks no problems with it ever

Correct. I was saying the block could be step decked and this is where the .003" is coming from.

. step-decking would put the outside off some also wouldnt it though?

I completely know what you are talking about... I was responding to Golden Eagles post. So in order to fix your problem, yes, you will have to mill the surface. I've had a warped water jacket on one of my blocks years ago and I had to do the same. As GE said, contact aebs just in case.

ok well i went back out and took some pix anyway, in both of these pix it will only fit exactly where it is:

now when i put it this way, it fits where every sleeve meets:
but if i put it at the front or back of each sleeve where the deck is solid it is flat, cant even fit a .0015 feeler in it

My friend use to work at AEBS and to be honest with you he told me that I should never use their products.Back in the day there were alot of good employees but since then he said they are no longer there and the place sucks. I am local and would never buy any of there crap. This is the second time in 2 weeks I have heard something wrong with the block. He also told me that they don't even sleeve the blocks then send it to a local mchine shop.

You're right. This machine shop in Lakeside called Accurate machine does there sleeving. They even did mine but I didnt go through AEBS. I went directly to the machine shop. I have yet to run to motor but hopefully everything works out OK.

yeah i would defiantly call aebs, if they wont do anything for you then i would have the block decked and with there blocks i would have to agree with PrecisionH23a don't do a step-deck do a flat-deck because the way there sleeves are made i think a flat-deck would be best

all my aebs sleeved blocks have been done by z10 and we havent had any problems.
we had some ERL sleeves sink and they insisted that we send the block back to have it resleeved instead of just decking it.

you have a 10 second car and youre asking if theres a special way to mill your block? you should call aebs before you do anything, they might even fix it for you..
