If you're looking for power you probably should have purchased a different car. Boosting your automatic R18 can yield some decent gains but not worth voiding the warranty and sacraficing MPG IMO.

i really wanted a different car, but my parents were afraid that i'd go crazy speeding around nd crap with my first car so they told me they would only help me out with the payments if i got the ex rather than the si. its killing me that i cant do anything with it.

Hmm not too shabby for a first car

If you're a young guy who needs help making payments on the car, though, good luck

A) Affording a turbo
B) Installing it

and most importantly

C) Hiding it from your parents

well i mean its no really a problem hiding it from my parents and i can pay off the turbo for a while on my card. they wouldnt know that its under the hood cuz they're not that into it, it was just the dealer who explained what the si was that made them now wanna get it. would it just be a waste to put it on an economic engine with automatic transmission? i just thought it'd be cool to surprise people with an economy car thats boosted

Credit card debt on top of payments, sounds like your digging a deeper hole for your parents.

so i guess the general response is a "no", a turbo on an auto economy is a bad idea. okay.

1) Yes, that's the general consensus. You'll make sub-par power, run the risk of damaging your engine (and I think your parents might just hit you if you ruined a brand new car behind their back) and you can't afford it.

2) First of all, your parents need to cut up the CC. Paying more on a CC is SUCH a bad thing to do. You'll go into debt instantly.. Have you seen the interest they tack onto that? Kids wind up killing themselves over that kinda debt.

3) What are you gonna tell your parentals when the dealer points out they can't work on the car cuz it has a big ole turbo under the hood?

i think you should be more grateful that your parents are helping you buy a brand new civic. my first car (in 2001) was a used 88 sentra with 90hp (if that) I paid 500 bucks for it.

I was just glad to have something to get from A to B, I saved every penny and now I own an Si and a boosted R.

My advice = save the $, don't mod it. When you can afford it, trade it in/sell it and move on to a performance car when your not living under your parents rules.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I got the car last year....so it took 5 years, but if I had a 20k car to trade in, I'd probably own a 3rd R

Yes very grateful, my first car in 1996 was a 1979 Chevrolet Chevette that my Grandpa passed down to my Uncle, who passed it down to my brother and I. It claimed to have 96HP but it only ran on 3 cylinders, it burned oil like it was going out of style, and the brakes went out on it just about every month. But hey, I had a car

yeah seriously, be grateful that your parents even got you a car. work your *** off and maybe even buy a little project car...make the civic your dd and that car your weekend warrior to speed around in.

I see well i guess i wont go as far as putting turbo, but i already ordered an exhaust, cai, downpipe, catalytic conv, tail lights, and halo headlights, so ill just leave it at that until after undergrad.

good decision...bolt ons are fine. at least you were very easy to convince unlike some punk kids on this forum. they ask for advice and when everybody gives them the same advice they say expletive you and do the exact oposite.
