is it worth going with an a3?
well ive been doing my homework. so i know you can make the a3 function similar to an a2 (locking vtec) but is it worth it?? base rsx's are going for around 9-11k. the type s are going for around 15-17k. so you guys think its worth saving some bux on your car note? at 1st it sounded like a great idea but the more i read up on it the more i lean towards a type s. have any of you guys made this decision and regret it or are you happy with it? thnx guys

if you want something fast to begin with, i would go with an rsx-s, i used to have an k20a3 in my ep now i have a k20a2, and it is way better than the k20a3, but if u plan on boost, then i guess the k20a3 would be fine

Most people only focus on the engine and they don't look at it as an overall package. With a Type S you would also get better brakes and importantly when you find a good Type S, you will have better reliability then when you buy a car and start swapping all these parts onto the car. My advice is to ask yourself what do you want to do with the car. If you want some performance but don't not care about all the nice things then a base rsx is a great car. If you are an enthusiest then you might want to look at a Type S because it has a great platform to start on. It already has great brakes and a mod friendly engine. 02-04 suspension could use some work though. Another thing is Type S has suspension parts that are not found on a base. So it would be more solid then a base.

Yes but his thread title includes an engine code not a trim level. He could get the k20a2 for ~$4000, coilovers for $1000, and used Type S brakes for $450 and be pretty much set perfomance wise.
i got mines from a salvage yard from texas, $3625.00 full swap, engine, harness, tranny, ecu, but u have to swith over ur EPS, starter alternator, all that good stuff, if it dont come with intake manifold dont worry k20a3 IM is the same thing, i would buy some type-s headers too... but just check out salvages all around the country

i've owned both cars an 03' base and an 06' type S... I'm a lot happier with the Type S, i have the A-spec package so I don't no how much of a difference the suspension is compared to the stock type s, but engine wise the type s is way more fun to drive, a lot quicker, snapier and the wonderful vtec to 8100rpm's. but, it's totally up to you, your money your preference.... just be happy with what you buy and let us know
