I have a 91 honda civic hatchback with a b18a1 in it. I just installed a new bottom end due to some stripped out motor mount bolt holes going into block. The bottom end that came out of it i was thinking about building it into a lsvtec. The only thing is i have a friend who owns a 2000 civic si and he has a build lsvtec in it and he ahs had nothing but problems with it. He told me not to do it because i will have problems with leaking oil and few others. also he said i shouldn't do it because if a lsvtec was meant to be in a honda they wuld have came form the factory with them. I need some help in figuring out what is best to do from someone who has experienced it. So if u can help me or give me andy advice it would be greatly appreciated.
LS/VTEC no issues here. We raced one for two years and now that motor is in a street car. As long as it is built correctly you'll have no problems. There are horror stories about everything.

Let me guess that your friend built the motor himself?
He probably didn't properly check clearances, didn't run the whole system right and screwed something up. Properly built an LS/VTEC can be more reliable than an OEM Honda engine from a Honda himself.
9 times out of 10 they aren't properly assembled. Unless you have extensive experience in motor building, which I would doubt since you need to ask this question, I wouldn't try it. I know I couldn't properly build an LS/VTEC engine, but that doesn't mean that you couldn't.
Lots of reading would help.
