It really depends on the offset of the wheels and the amount of camber you'll have as well as the diameter and width of the tire and the amount of lowering. In the case of 17's the answer is "More than likely, YES".

The best way to find out is to measure the overall diameter of your current wheel/tire combo then check http://www.tirerack.com and if you look at the specs of whatever tire you wish to buy, it will tell you the diameter and width of that tire...From there +/- you can tell how much more you'll gain by going 17 inch rims.
