Default Traction bars... What do they do, and why would I want one?

I've been reading the traction bar threads about deciding on which one is best, and I guess I am still fuzzy as to what a traction bar actually does. All of the talk in the threads seems to be drag-oriented and my CRX will be a time trial/autocross car. Do I want a traction bar? Is there a different best bar for the road course instead of the drag strip?
Thanks!

you should be good if your running n/a and your engine mounts are good. why waste money on something you don't need. i would replace the stock thrust rod bushings with poly though. the only reason i got a traction bar was to clear my down pipe .i was running a stock b16 with a 75 shot of NOZ and never had any problems with the stock thrust rods. i did replace all the bushings and was running hasport mounts.
