Default '98 GSR value

Hey guys. My wife is going to buy a new car, and wants to trade in my GSR. The car lot is offering 5g's for it.

It's a '98 with 77k on it. I/H/E, in dash DVD, leather. Car is pretty clean, but the previous owner wrecked it, and repaired it. Car has clean title, but the carfax of course shows the wreck. Also, I wanted to add (a car lot doesn't care about this by the way) the engine runs VERY smooth, and, the GSR tranny has absolutely no grinds. 8000 rpm shifting is super smooth still. I have never owned a honda, or swapped a tranny that was this smooth. So I'm thinking that to a honda guy, that has to be worth something?

So what do you think? I'm thinking I could at least get 6 or 6500 out of it. Think it's worth trading in for 5? BTW, I still owe 8 on it.

the fact that your going to be upside down on the loan no matter what you do, there is the benefit that the dealer will pay off the rest of the loan..

that's what I'm thinking too. I'm just worried that no one else will want to buy it since it's been in a wreck. The amount of usable parts on the car is worth more than 5 grand. I just can't see parting out a perfectly good working '98 GSR. You know? I keep hoping someone will rear end me. So I can swap the engine into an EG hatch, and just get the loan paid off with insurance. LOL. I know, that's dumb. But man... 5 g's for it. That swap alone is prolly worth 3. And the brake setup, and the wheels, and the clean *** interior. But, I suppose I should cut my losses.

So you think go ahead and take 5? I know the car lot is going to turn around and sell it for 9. Bastards.

dont trade it in. i say take out the dvd player put a stock cd player back in, take off the itr lip, replace as many parts back to stock as you can, sell those off and get some cash and from my experiences your going to get more money for a stock car. it may take a little bit longer to sell but isnt waiting 2-4 weeks worth an extra couple thousand dollars?

yes, I think it's worth it. I wish I had enough money to keep this car, and my ITR. I love daily driving this thing.

If I were to try to sell it out right, how much do you think I could get? The paint and body are flawless. Whatever signs of the wreck that happened are not visible. Blue book on this car isn't what I thought. So, what do you think? I was thinking that if I had to take a 3 thou loss on the car from the dealer, maybe I could sell it outright for more, and not take such a big loss.

I'm pretty sure you can get 6-8k for it.

I would recommend selling the car yourself, you always get more money that way.

I'm surprised the dealer is offering 5k. THat's probably the best you're gonna get from them and since you owe 8 that might be youtr best bet, good luck!

I am one of the sales managers at a Chevy, Cadillac and Hummer dealership in Cali. We just took in a GSR 98 with 130k on it with no leather. We gave him $4k for it. And that was stepping up on it. So there not jackin you, really.
Once cars hit a certain point they dont have much value to the dealership...chances are is they will just whole-sale the car out anyway so they dont care to even take it in. You can easily sell it on the street for $7k-$8k. I would do that.

98 gs-r with leather, low miles, all maintenance documented, clean title, all stock= at least 7500 here in the bay area, cali. You'll just need to replace all your aftermarket parts back to factory specs.

I will give you 5 g's for it.

Then turn around and sell it myself for 7g's

Actually if nothing else put it in the local paper for 6500.00 and take the first 6000 for it. If you are even considering accepting a 5 grand trade in for it, then sell it for 5 grand and use the cash as negotiating money. They will knock the price down more if you throwing up cash money.
