Default $1,000 suspension.

I have a 1990 crx si and i would like to upgrade my suspension. I have about a grand to spend. The car will be used for daily spirited driving and eventually autocross. I will be swapping a b18c in her in a few months if that matters at all. I was thinking 15 inch rims if that matters either. Lil help?

Depends how much you want to get done for that 1000.

You can get a nice set of coil overs
You can get the best shock/spring setup
You can get ok everything

What i'd do is
ST rear bar Koni Yellow Shocks then S2 or GC coils rerated to your needs.

As i'm sure you know there are alot of parts to get, how high on the pecking order is up to you. Also depending what class you want to compete in for autoX.

Great idea man. How much were you planning on lowering it? You should buy tokico illuminas, which are fully adjustable gas struts, and mate them with skunk2 springs. That shouldn't be over $600 through ebay - there's some really good ebay sellers that deal only high quality auto parts. With the remainder of cash you could either upgrade your lower control arms or buy a traction bar or something; or just put that towards your b18. good luck

K-sports. Then spend the other 400 dollars on beer and strippers.

Do you have any experience with the k sports? and what are the differences between coilovers and springs? any significant handling differences?

The ksport coilover kit is $950 but that only leaves $50 for beer and hookers

Ha. Ksports 950? From where? I got mine when they first came out over a year ago, for 710 shipped including the LCA's. I know stdclayton got his a while back for under 600.
Springs suck, and so do sleave style coilovers. K-sports are the cheapest full-bodied coilover, and i would choose them over pretty much anything, i like them more than my tien basics.

x2

I got my 5-ways for $330.00 shipped from a shop that sales on Ebay Skunk 2 coilovers are only $225.00 shipped as well (just go through a VERY high rated seller) so that leaves enough room for a camber kit up front (just use washers in the rear) and an alignment with change left over.......................for whatever you wanna spend it on

555 on shocks and springs or 600 on a 36-way adjustable damper system.

Sort of like comparing manute bol to shaq if you ask me.

I've heard that also, but i've also heard that their adjustments sometimes click out of place unintentionally, like from a 5 to a 4 etc. Have you had that problem?

Well let think about suspension, handling which is what you are really going for.

1. Weight of rims
2. Tires
3. Shocks
4. Springs
5. Sway bars
6. Bushings

I could eat up $1000 real fast.

Get GCs with custom springs, Koni Yellows, ST rear bar, and you've got the critical parts of a competitive autocoss car.

JLBmotorsports sells the Ksports for $950 also... maybe prices went up? Not a problem but if im going to spend that much why not just go Tien? Are Ksports better?

KSports did go up this year (along with alot of other things)...but they didn't go up $300. You should still be able to get them under $700 for sure.

^ nice setup

or (what I'm using)
GC's, AGXs, ST rear sway bar, Energy front bushings, Neuspeed front tie bar

950 is too much. Go look in the sellers martketplace. There are several dealers there for less than $600. This was price quoted to me 2 months ago.

I stick with brand name if i were you. I did for my own car, and spent the same amount your talking about, my car rides awesome!

- Set of Tokico struts
- Suspension Techniques spring (ride so much nicer than coilovers)
- Suspension Techniques full sway bar kit
- energy bushings

Think about your decsion carefully, we're talking about your ride quality/handling here.

you should check the autocross/road race forum. they sometimes sell used setups for EFs in there. there was a set of koni/ground controls with tophat for an 88 crx a while back if you are trying to stay in budget. also, check out craigslist or H-T marketplace, maybe you can find a good deal on used rotas with fairly new tires.

If your bushings are stock, I guaranty they need to be replaced and will be a huge bang for the buck. Then I would go springs, agx shocks, big rear sway bar (stock front is fine) big wide grippy tires.
