I'm in the process of building a motor, but i'm going to keep the GSR head stock.
I already have a USDM P72 OBD1 ecu. just wondering since the head is a 97 OBD2 head, will it be able to pass the california BAR. any info would be helpful

You should be ok, the main concern is if there different type parts (B18 bottom with B16 top, or LS/VTEC, or CRVTEC). Just convert the motor to your car year and your good.
