Just Bought A Teg
Well last night i purchased a 94 ls 5 speed with 163k from a friend for 2 grand. Engine and tranny are smooth, body has a couple rust spots/holes by the rear wheel fenders. It is mostly stock, except for a sony headunit, and a muffler that is not installed. yet. I have a couple of questions
The maintenance required light is on, is that trying to tell me that there is low of some fluid or is that the check engine light?
The ABS light is also on, i was wondering what could that be?
I am definitely gonna want to do some mods, the first thing i want to do is get a sort shifter, maybe some rims, and then maybe some bolt-ons, any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks

no your engine is fine you should have searched that first but since im a good guy theres a small button under the driverside dash press and hold that for like 10 seconds and itll go away.
Just did it thanks, also i was wondering where the clutch safety switch is so i can start it without having to press the clutch down, i tried a search but came up with nothing, thanks
good id say put in a short throw there easy to do and fun. Id shy away from intakes and exaust till you figure out if your going to go turbo or n/a but just use your head.
do yourself a favor and dont start dumping money into a 13 year old car that you just bought for 2000 dollars.
spend or save your money for something more worthwhile. ive made the mistake of wasting money on my first car also and i wish i hadnt sometimes. i dont regret it but the money could have went toward something better.
as for the maintenance required light, yes there is a button right under the driver side dash a little right from the steering wheel.. hold it for ~5 seconds and it should disappear. the main purpose for that is to remind you of an oil change. your abs problem could most likely be a dirty sensor, or the abs pump (do you hear a buzz when you start your car?) that could be the abs pump.. not a huge deal. good luck

Definitely start off with the basic maintenance, such as changing the oil, check spark plugs/wires to see how they're holding up, distributor/rotor etc. You want to make sure the motor is all up to par before anything. If you feel na is your thing and your happy with the performance the car already has then go ahead and slap on a few bolt-ons if that's your wish, they won't make a significant difference in power but they'll sure change the tone of your ride. Anyway Good luck
nice choice for the price

I Agree with him...do what i am doing...slowly put some extra cash into it..to make it look good..but at the same time...save your money and learn how to become a better driver (not saying you cant drive) then once you are ready for a newer car....you will be able hopefully to sell the car for more then what you got it for...and u got money saved in the bank to help if the money u got from your teg doesnt cover the price of the new car
(i am in high school and doing that exact same thing)

Damn, am I in the right forum? This is the Integra forum isn't it? Then why the hell are people saying to save up and buy something else?
Go to the appearance forum and look at some nice Integras. For the money spent, there is hardly anything on the road that looks as nice, performs as well, gets 30 mpg, is extremely easy to work on, has aftermarket support beyond comprehension, has JDM importers selling low-mileage affordable powerplants, and with minimal investment can handle as well as high-end vehicles.
Why are you guys that are telling him to sell and buy another car even here in the Integra forum?

If you decide to fix up an Integra, do it for the love of Integras because there are many other cars that will go much faster for cheaper than an Integra.
I have to admit that although my Integ was highly modified, it still was more reliable than most stock Ford Mustangs.

this is my second car, my first car was a 92 saab 9000 turbo 5 speed which was a great car but the timing chain broke at high speeds, so it had bent valves, leaking head gasket, and there was coolant in the combustion chambers so i sold it to a friend and got the teg. I am going to do the body work over spring break, then do some maintenane, and then get some rims, thanks
ABS related: First thing to do is check the fluid level. You should be able to barely see it on the clear cover. Check it and add some if needed and your abs light might go off. Check for fluid leaks as well. Your brakes will still function as non-abs system just that they may lock up if braking hard.

i didnt say save up to buy something else.. there are just much more worthwhile investments for a kid than wasting money on a 2000 dollar 13 year old integra. if anything, fix the car up and get it back to a reliable and good looking condition.. save up money for a fresh motor.. something worth something in the long run, rath than installing bolt on mods that will just magnify the age of the motor/car more likely than anything else... by all means.. do what you want, im just speaking from my own personal preference and experiences.
personally, im very big into the car audio aspect of things with my ride.
but everyones got their own gig
