Garage Shelving - By... and FOR... DRAG Racers!
I know it's not totally drag related, but I value your opinions and tech much more than any other forum on the site. Mods, if it has to be moved, that's fine.
I just bought a brand new home and the garage where I will be now working on my SFWD Civic is totally bare. I am epoxying the floor, and painting the walls, but I want to build a little loft and a bunch of shelving.
Did you guys buy shelving? Build it? Any online articles that show how to build some quality stuff? Let's see your garages and storage space!

i did my garage last year. i bought some shelves from Lowes with some particle board shelves. right now I have 2 bare B blocks, 2 cranks, and all the nuts/bolts, caps and misc hardware for the bottom end on the same shelf.

Louis, all I can say is build it for 3X as much weight as you think you're ever going to put on it. My Dad was a contractor before he passed away, and I always got the crappy jobs of going to redo shelves and the like for cusotmers that had done their own, and failed. Having said that; my Dad was a big believer in overdoing things. We never had a complaint from any customers having poor shelving. As a matter of fact when my wife and I were looking at buying our first home, we actually went and looked at a home that father had renovated approx 15yrs earlier. All the shelves that i did in the basement were intact, as were the one's in the garage, and they looked pretty much the same as when I built them, aside from usage marks. Always build waay too heavy

If you have Sam's warehouse in your area, they have some bad *** shelves you can choose. I have the Gorilla brand shelves and it'll hold anything you throw at it pretty much. I was there I think last week and they have another Gorilla brand shelves that is the same one I see on all industrial/machine shops. Price is not bad at all. I'm thinking of getting these when I move to a new house/garage
Make sure everything lands on a stud, look into getting heavy duty METAL brackets, 1x4 wood and shelving boards at the lenght you need, remeber that drywall is 1/2in, 1x4 is 3/4in and you at least 1-1 1/2 of an inch into the stud,,,I hate to see **** fall off the wall.... screws holds weight NOT trim nails,,cutting coners cause problems down the road. Need anymore help or free advice

We built the ones down at my freinds shop out of angle iron and sheet metal.

about space for all the new toys after that.

There was a good article a few months back in Handyman about garage shelves. I haven't built them but they seemed easy to do and pretty bad ***. Simple design as well.
Gorilla Racks FTW. They are the only shelves that we use at the shop and they are amazing. Not cheap, but very heavy duty, they just slip together, and can hold approx 2000lb's per shelf. We get them at Menards up here.
Are those the silver metal racks that you lay particle board over? I think I have a set of those... going to look them up now.

Pretty easy to replace the shelving with 3/4" plywood if needed as well.
