Default Taking off the CAT!

Seriously, WTF... I'm pissed off. I've taken these bolts off once when I put the exhaust on and it was nowhere near this hard.

Below, the bolt of death. No socket, no wrench, no impact wrench (used both 125ftlbs tq and a 450ftlbs tq wrenches, the 450 launched the socket into my gut after the bolt rejected it), not even a breakover bar could get this thing off. I coated it in two different kinds of wd-40 stuff. I was turning so hard i almost had the thing touching the heatshield.....

I also have no idea how to get this thing off(blue), should I take off the heat shield(red) around it first or does it come out somehow?

any advice?

PB Blaster, thats what the other kind was. I used a socket and a hammer and a wrench and a hammer. No good.

PB blaster works ******' wonders. theres a higher concentrate type of it that you can let soak over night if somethings really giving you trouble but considering how new everything is some PB will do the trick

+ stop being a sissy man

As a last resort, break out the Dremal with the all purpose Carbide cutting wheels. Split the nut and then hit with the socket. It will come off. Of course, using this method, you will need to get a new bolt, washers and nut set. You also need to be careful not to cut anything that should not be cut. This will also take a little time. However, it is a safe way to remove the sucker.

I have 26' Sport Fishing Boat (26' Osprey) that I trailer from time to time so it is in and out of the salt water quite a bit. I had to replace my trailer brakes and hubs. The bolts that hold the hub to the axle was so rusted on, I snapped a Craftsman 1/2 breaker bar with a 6' pipe on it, and broke 2 sockets trying to get the nuts off. The method above was the only way I was able to remove the nuts and hence the bolts.

For the O2 sensors just use the 22mm wrench and hit it with your had towards the fron of the car. After a couple of times it should break loose.

How long did you let the PB Blaster soak in????

I used an airwrench for the cat bolts

Is it me or should the jack stands be turned so the rail sits in the stand?

If pb blaster doesn't help then heat is your friend!!! Heat them up alittle. Not cherry red but heat them up good. If not wizer them bitches off. I deal with bolts that are rusted like a **** and bolts that are torqued like hell. Just be sure to let the pb dry before you do it!

Take it to a shop and if they're nice enough they'll loosen it up for free. That's what I used to do when I was stuck on a bolt.

The jackstand was in a bad spot thats why I had it that way.

I let the PB sit for ~20 mins.

Tomorrow when I have more time I'm going to get the car higher in the air, get some better spray, heat it up a bit by letting the car run, and its coming off.

Thanks for the 22mm tip but I still dont see how I can get a wrench on it, where can I get the socket for it?

Put the breaker bar back on and lower the car. The weight of the car should snap that bolt right off

You need an O2 sensor socket. It has a slit in the socket to fit over the wires.

When I say use heat I mean use a high temp open flame like a acetalyn (spelling) or otherwise known as a cutting torch anything in th 1000-2000 degree range. Heat it up with the open flame AFTER THE PB HAS DRIED or BEFORE YOU SPRAY IT with pb and go to town with the breaker bar. Have fun and remember heat is your friend when it comes to cat bolts and nuts

thats not a bad idea, but i duno how much I trust other people working on my car. The only reason I let honda change my oil is because if they eff up, they can actually replace whatever they destroy.
