Bypassing PS Pump - Which Gasket Material to Use?
I am going to pull my power steering pump this weekend and bypass it by connecting the metal output hose to the larger diameter rubber input hose. I plan to use a circular gasket and a hose clamp to make the connection secure.
I am wondering if the type of gasket material matters? There are a lot of pre-made circular gaskets in the plumbing section of Home Depot, Orchard Supply etc. but I have no idea if they are of the right material. I don't think power steering fluid is particularly corrosive (and these will be next to no pressure in the line without the pump), but I'd like to make sure that I am not going to do something stupid.

I think the best way to do it is to loop the line down by the rack. Just make sure there is some fluid in the lines. If anything it'll free up more room and a little weight.
EDIT-I haven't done this yet but plan to.

I just spent the last three weekends under my car, so I am looking for a low-effort project.
