Default Suspension setup and tire questions

Ok I'll ask here because I didn’t get much help in the tire and wheel section.

I have a 1996 civic ex couple 2dr. I'm have the following.
Suspension:
Kyb agx struts
H&R springs
Full urethane kit (no rubber on any parts anymore)
ST Sway bars
Front and rear strut tower braces

Tires:
Civic 14” steelies
Nitto 555r 204/55r/14 tires

I am having traction issues. I tried tire pressures of 11-25 and best results were at 13-14
I tried adjusting the strut stiffness and nothing helped at all no matter where I put it (front or rear, but rears I just put to hardest)

The classes I run are full street classes. The car IS street driven about 3 times a week. I’m not talking to a meet or 2; I’m talking driving 2-3 full days. (Picking up kids, to and from work, to the store, etc. just like a daily). So I can’t just go with the most expensive stiffest stuff (I thought about getting an old set of used stocker shocks and welding them so there is no flex and use that when I go to the races (thoughts?). So I have to be able to at least function in the same manner.

I spin all of 1st, and at least half of 2nd gear. I tried launching at different RPMs and the only thing I can do is slip the clutch and feather it while I’m launching just to keep it from launching any worse. I actually had 9 different people come up to me at nopi and tell me that they can’t figure out why my 60 ft’s are so crappy. They said on the same tires they ran 1.8-1.9s I ran 2.3-2.189 60 ft times and the 2.1xx was my best.

Anyway, I’m trying to be very competitive with what I have or make some “minor” changes. Any help is greatly appreciated as I’m going to go to the NDRA again in June for the St.Louis competition. I would like to have my car ready to compete again.

Thanks!

mike

I think a BFG drag radial will work quite a bit better than those Nittos, and you can step up to a 225/50/15 for a lot more tire.

Welded rear shocks will be REALLY bouncy on the track, i don't think it's a good call. Maybe a set of OMNI rear drag shocks that you just throw in at the track would be a better choice.
