I was hoping to get some suggestions on which series tire I should use: 205/45R16 or 205/40R16. I haven't lowered the car yet, so I imagine the 40's wouldn't fill as much of the fender gap up as the 45's would.

You want 45 series.

 

get 45 seris, so the diameter of the wheel and tire will be somewhat equivalent to the stock wheel and tire diameter. I current have a 17 inch wheel on a 40 seris tire - p205/40/zr17

 

Suggested tire sizes:

15" - 50 series
16" - 45 series
17" - 40 series
