Default Installed an AEM cold air yesteday :)

Actually. . this intake was on my brother's '00 Si. By relocating the battery, we were able to make it fit in my Crx. Since this was from the '00 Si, it has more of a straight design, rather than the one for the Crx with all the bends to get around the strut tower and battery. I think this one looks a lot better than the normal Crx cold air intake. Before anyone asks. . .the red stripe on the intake is electrical tape. Since this intake was made for the '00 Si, it has an extra sensor hole in it. All I had in my toolbox at the time was some electrical tape. . .hehehehe

I haven't actually heard the one made for the Crx, so I don't have anything to compare to. . .but this '00 Si intake in my Crx sounds INSANE! At normal driving, it's virtually unoticable (aside from the slight whistling sound), but as soon as I step on the gas. . WHOA! Sounds like a freakin B16 in there! hehehe

So yeah. . .I mentioned relocating my battery. . .I just went to Kragen and got one of those cheapo battery boxes. Eventually I'll get a nice box, like the Moroso one, but for now, this cheap one works. I had a ton of 4ga wire left over from an old stereo install, so I didn't have to worry about spending the money on that fat *** wire. The job was actually very easy. I am pleased with how it turned out. Unfortunately the pics I took turned out really bad. So you don't get to see it yet! hehehe. But I'll get some new ones taken this weekend hopefully.

Make sure to put something around the opening up front...like a cut up rubber hose to protect your CAI. I've seen it break or get holes from rubbing against metal. good install man

Hey rasta. . .nope, no problems. The cai itself was an easy install.

Trinity. . .Thanks for the cookie!

EF_LSVtec. . .Yeah, I know what you are saying man. The cai has some scrapes on it from when it was installed in my brother's '00 Si. It has a bracket sticking off of it at the bottom, that you put a screw through into the chassis. Unfortunately it was made for the '00 Si, wo it doesn't line up with anything on the Crx, so I had to make a small metal bracket to extend to the closet stock screw hole for the stock airbox. That think is pretty rigid now. But I'll probably still put a peice of rubber in there for protection like you said.

Thanks for the replies!

Settle down, i think the guy did a good job on installing it, but come on its an intake, that is one of the simplest things that can be installed. Why don't we all post pics of putting on our intakes, then we can all be a big happy family and congradulate each other. If you think that the pic was uncalled for then you should have im him and told him so.

you know what im glad he posted it becuase ive been thinking of doin the exact same......and wanted to know what it looked like or how it hooked up exactly.

Their are other people on this site, and just cause its an "intake" he can stilll post it up, I really hope this doesnt become another DSMtalk where the mods are total dicks, and everytime a ? is asked they are referred to the switch button.

and now that this has been made, I can actually go to the search down the road type in SI CAI in crx....and it will come up....allright so see it does serve a purpose, everything has to start somwhere.

Damn.

Ok. . .first off, thaks to those that have triied to keep it civil here. To those others that insist on showing their ignorance, what is it that compels people like you to ruin other people's post with garbage like this? If you feel like this was such a waste of a thread, then just ignore it. It will drop off the front page. By adding useless comments and sarcastic/ignorant pictures, you just increase the amount of people that will view this thread, and see how mature you are.

Now, as far as the intake istall goes, I am not a retard. I know that the intake is most people's first mod, and that it's not the hardest thing to do. I only posted this because I felt that what I did was different enough from what most people do, and thought it deserved an audience. And I figured that other people might be interested in doing the same thing.

Little did I know that everyone on this board already has a swapped and turbo'd motor, and that I am not good enough to post pics of my install, for it is a mere intake. What makes you SOOO special, that you can say, "It's ONLY an intake install anyway?" Even if you've installed a million turbo's, not everyone is as cool as you ok? Some people might be interested in my install.

What really gets me goin here is this. . .I have been into the imports for a while now. I've had a Civic for the past 4 years now, done all the basics to it. I just got my Crx about a month ago. And from little searching I've done already, I've noticed that within the import scene. . .there is a complete subculture of Crx owner's. It's almost a like "family" of not just Crx enthusiasts, but CAR enthusiasts. I found people that know about and love cars the way I do. That made me happy to see that. Tonight, unfortuntely, I am dissapointed that I have joined a family with the likes of people like "Krow" & "HondaCRX", who only live to bash on the shortcomings of others.

Oh. .by the way. . .much in the same way that most people have seen an intake installed before. . . .EVERYONE has heard the "I heard that sticker/ that sound adds xxxHP" joke. So get off your high horse, hipocrit.

And to MrTodd. . .nope. . .didn't really notice any performance gains. Well, I DID, but they were very marginal. It does pull a little harder, but not really worth the $200 most people pay. I only really put it on because I got it from my brother for free.

The reason you didn't see much of an increase in power is that the intake is not where the restriction is on a CRX aspiration system. From what I hear, the exhaust manifold on the Civic/CRX Si is the worst Honda has ever made. Do yourself a favor and make this your next mod. I can't attest to any performance gains 'cause I did my intake, header and cat at the same time. Sorry...

Thank you Nhikon thats what I was trying to get at.

The reason you prob. dont notice a real gain is becuase the pipe diameter is to big, each intake is designed to fit the right diameter for the correct air flow on each car...a 1.6 DOHC vtec engine needs a lil more air flow then our sohc non-vtec's......the piping is indeed bigger and this can actually hurt performance a lil. But its sounds good cause the pipe is so big, its making more of an echo and increasing in sound.....

I never bashed on anyone, i only asked that the guy settle down, and if he had a problem with the pic that was posted that he should instant message HondaCRX and tell him that way. I also stated that you did a good job on the install.

Hey Kasper. . .I know what you are saying about the intake piping diameter. But umm. . .I have a '91 Si. And I thought that I have a 1.6 sohc VTEC motor, right?? Or am I completely wrong on this? I could swear I hear vtec kick in at 4500-4800 rpms.
