Default h22 compression - 120 across

im having some problems with this new car i got, like white smoke and stuff.

just ran the compression test, and its like no greater than 130 across the board.

the mech says the piston rings are gone and my best bet is to get a new swap completely. do you all agree with this? the car barely runs and stalls out now, i got it for a good discount in 'non working' condition so i knew something would be wrong ...

but does really low compression mean goodbye to the engine?

well, you could rip the block apart and put new rings in, but unless you are doing it yourself, the cost for labor would be more than it would be to just get a complete shortblock

Hey whats up...didnt wanna make a new post since its the same subject....a buddy of mine has an h22a and he was telling me that he smoked boths plugs of cylinders 1 & 4 and did a compression test and results came out 225 for cyl. 1 & 4 and 125 for cyl. 2 & 3....could it be some bent valves or some burnt rings ??? thanks

Yes, headgasket determines a good amount of compression.. Keep in mind that it spaces that head from the pistons, therefore any variation deterimes a raise or drop in compression. Good example: When building a boosted motor, if you want to run more boost (Generally speaking) it is wise to put a thicker headgasket in, lowering the compression, allowing for more boost.
