Roll cage/bar install, any liability worries?
I weld for more of a hobby and for extra cash for my own project type thing and was wondering about installing a cage or bar for somebody. I know the are unsafe for a street driven car unless you ride around wearing a helmet all the time. so what do you do in the situation where somebody wants a bar or cage installed on a street car?
Thanks
Randy

Don't do anything more than a 6pt. No head injuries to worry about.
4pt would be even better, but still the chance passengers will suffer.

Let them know the possibilities of what can happen, make then sign all the legal paper work. And if your not 100% ok with taking the job on, don't.
What kind of legal paper work is there existing? Or are you talking about writing up your own type of consent document? I've never had a reason to look, so it would be a nice point of reference for the future if there was a set of documents I could download and use if the situation ever came up.
Thanks

I know of one local shop that has a little metal sign that they weld on all of their cages. Pretty much says "This roll cage is not designed nor intended to be used for any means of safety, especially a roll over".

i hear you work coners in Gahanna too
What i recomend you do is make the customer sign a waive basicly saying that this is intended for off-road use only and not recomended for street use furthermore will have no liability in saftey. Make sure you keep copies of all the waivers signed and dated just in case somebody gets sue happy.
