Default Noob Questions...

Alrighty...
First of all I have this knocking noise in my engine. I can't tell if it's a rod or if its a lifter sticking...or valve clearance...It occurs at all times but is faint at idle and full throttle...cruising is when its heard most...not loud but audible...Non Vtec h23...

Second... I have searched but have not found an answer. Would it be ok to bend some pipe to fit the stock running of exhaust with 2.5'' and a magnaflow muffler or would it be better to go with something premade. I don't want a loud raspy tone...I sound like a can with angry bees in it now. I want a deep tone but nothing obnoxiously loud. Also, I don't care if it adds much power at all...

kteller has some good 2.5" piping throw a 22" resonator on there to cut the raspy down.

maybe get your valves adjusted?

Valves are more of a tic not a knock, it could be your berrings are getting ready to die, the infamus rod knock.

Whatever pipe you run, a chambered muffler will be the quietest.

It is more of a tic noise than a loud knock so...I guess valve adjustment it is eh?

Yep And you don't have any lifters FYI, only rocker arms.

if you have access to a pipe bender and can get piping at a good cost (free ) i say you just bend your own, and weld a resonator/muffler on there.

I agree that a valve adjustment is needed. There should be a write up somewhere around here.

It definately needs the adjustment. When I took the car up onto a lift at work I discovered that the catalytic converter heat shield was just laying on top of the converter...Thus beating the **** out of the underbody making my car sound like ****...Anywho... I think I'm just going to get some aluminum pipe and bend my own exhaust put a high flow cat, resonator, and muffler on.

Brandon did you finally remove that shield? Haha Jut take a hammer to it like I did mine. It should slide right out. And I called it first on the valve adjustment :D
