Default how much whp can an oem timing belt take?

Like the title says...how much whp can an oem timing belt take?
A local shop around here is telling me i need the greddy timing belt, but after searching it seems like they're just for show and alot of people have snapped them...
I'll be dd'ing my car at around 350whp but at the track it'll be around 700whp.
Is oem fine when properly maintained? or do I need a greddy?

i really dont know for sure so someone can correct me but off the top of my head i cant think of why power would affect the timing belt. as long as the tensions right so it doesnt skip a tooth when accelerating real hard i think an oem belt is fine. but again i really dont know for sure this is just my instinct

700whp?? if this is in fact true, you have a beast of a civic, and you most likely shouldn't have to ask questions like this.

Has to do with how aggressive the cams are, mostly.
Look at those that have Toda B spec - many of them have timing belts with groups of teeth missing.

Some say oem is good for everything. I decided to go with the majority, who said otherwise, and bought a Power Enterprise belt.
(mmmm kevlar)

go with an aftermarket belt. If you really are running that much power you spent alot of money. Spen another 100 bucks and you will have the peace of mind with say a greddy belt. Besides would you really want to be cheap and take that kind of chance with your motor?

true story.. was at the dyno one day and a guy i know was tunning his car.. at this time he was pushhing 500 whp.. he had a greddy timming belt on it.. a bolt fell in to the timming belt cover (at around 6000rpm) and shreded the greddy belt.. the belt didn;t fail. it held together and saved the motor.. a oem timing belt would of popped.. now i only install greddy belt on motors that are pushing any kind of power..

spending money isn't an issue, it's choosing the better product.

THanks for everyones feedback, i want to make sure this beast stays together

The original PE belt and GReddy belts were identical (so Ive read). Some say they were even from the same supplier. Whether thats true or not, I cant say.
The new PE belt ("Super Kevlar II) is supposedly stronger...not that you can order the old one from them anymore anyways.

As far as durability from personal experience, I cant say...I just put it on and still cant get the damn tdc alignment right (no time). But I only saw one bad review, and that was from over-tensioning, I beleive.

It does cost more than GReddy, but its also less than Toda (Im not paying more money for a red belt).
Plus, it smells like a brand new GI Joe/Transformer

well i do love that smell.....

after searching around for a while in the archives, i can't make up my mind. it seems like alot of all motor guys were shredding the PE belt, but they also have alot different cam design that a high whp fi engine...

at the same time a lot of people are saying that the failures was due to improper instal and over tensioning....and still quite a few people are saying go with oem i can't make up my mind....

and just fyi, this isn't a money thing. i have no problem spending the extra couple bucks and getting a far superior product, if in fact it is that much better.

The choices are greddy, PE and Toda? I've seen Todas go for 150? I couldn't seem to find any PE's for under 150 :S.

and oem....

I'm not sure what cams I'll be running yet, but I don't want to have to change my timing belt every 15k like some of the all motor guys do with cammed engines and aftermarket timing belts.

I've seen a greddy belt have a rock stuck in it and it still kept timing. So for an extra 50-60$ over stock I wouldn't mind. I've seen 700whp on the toda belt so I think it holds it's on and it's been on the same engine for 3 summers.
