Nautrally assperated vs. forced induction
K I have 93 H23 prelude that I plan on doing a VTEC H22 swap and I would like to put a Crower stroker kit in it. I would like to be able to push 350 bhp and I want to keep it natrually assperated. My friends are giving me crap on going natural they say I should go boost. I am new to this so I am trying to get all the info before I make a desicion. My budget is 20 to 25K on the engine so that shouldn't be an issue. I don't really want to go boost because turbos are the norm and I am looking to do something unique. What are your thoughts? Any ideas are welcomed?
getting 350 hp out of an N/A h22 is going to be difficult, but hey, anything can be done with the right amount of money. good luck
Hmmm lets think about this logically (most of the N/A guys lack this attribute around here)
Say for example you have 25k to build a h22 (more like an h24 when you're done
) to 350hp.
I bet if you spend 25k on an FI car you have a good chance of getting into the 9's. (I am factoring in purchase of h22, swap, building motor, forged parts, etc) That will work out to about 500 - 600whp easily enough.
So, you can run 9's or you can run 11's.
Same deal with spending 5k on a car. You can run 13's or run high 10's.
If you decide to spend 25k on this pig, good luck and keep us posted. I am sure theres a lot of people who would like to see that project.

I think you have no idea what you're getting into and this will never happen.

OK instead of telling me it’s not going to happen and ridiculing my ideas you should offer real advice or alternatives. Like I said I am new and looking for ideas. That’s why people come here right? The 350 hp was an estimate I am a realist, so maybe I am looking at this all wrong that’s why I ask for advice. K, so, what is an ideal hp for a naturally aspirated engine? The money is my limit so it’s just what I plan on spending if it will be less than that will be fine. Does anyone have any REAL advice?

ah, so any ideas are not really welcome.
your buddies and Hawkze are giving you REAL advice. you want to do this just to be unique and you have that much money you're willing to spend just to be unique?
just a thought.

I gave you some REAL advice? Maybe you should let us know what you want to hear, we'll repeat it and go from there!
You could go N/A but all I was saying is its a LOT of $$ to get beat by some d series turbo

I don't think there's enough things out there that would give those kind of numbers. There was a thread I saw once that stated the reality of owning a Prelude, and the sort of "boundaries" you will encounter with doing different things with your car. I agree, I would not spend that much money to get beat by a turbo D. I'd boost the **** out of that Prelude, do everything right. N/A is fun, but only in certain Honda's... ie "I have an N/A Civic Wagon" (NOT bashing it either) is not saying much. But saying "I have an N/A NSX-R" will get you some where. What I'm getting at, is just boost it.
Your goal is possible, slim, but could be done.. It'll just take you a lot of money to get that build completed. There's some NA H22/H23/Frankenstein engines on here making 200+whp, but there's only a few, very few, NA H22 builds on here making 250+whp. I can think of like 2 at the moment. Check out "The Birdmans'" & "2poin6's" builds. And those aren't hitting 300whp yet either.
2point6's (last) build: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1843270
The Birdman's build: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1646948
200whp can be easily reached with many different methods, but getting much higher gets harder without doing major work.. If you want to do it, then go for it. It'll be a great build, and yes, unique. I know these guys don't think it can be done, and most just say go turbo because it yields big gains, but do what you want, and not what everyone is telling you. If it doesn't make you happy then don't do it because then it's a waste of your time.
So you're going to put the build in your Prelude then? Well, it is a pig, but weight reduction for these things do WONDERS, shaves out the seconds.. Trust me, with a good build and a light car, you'll run some good numbers, if that's what your looking for.
So what are you looking for anyways?? A track car, or a AutoX car, or a Street Car?? The latter is highly unlikely for the things you'll have to do to it.
I'm hoping to hit at least 300whp in my build.. Really hoping... But it's not going to be complete for awhile.. I still need a few things.. Like, another shell to drop it in. And money for that, and a few other parts. But most the major stuff is finished. I've never mentioned this though, so please don't hate on me..

it isnt always about going in a straight line. why does everyone say, oh dawg, you'll run 8's with that ****?
And FI is like cheating IMO

Ok lets look at this logically again.
25k into a car and sink... 8k in suspension, how badass would that be? Then take the left over 17k and dump it into FI and you will still smoke any N/A build on the planet, straight line or cornered.

Back to logic again (man, are some people born without this?)
FI is definitely cheating, backstabbing, unethical, impossible, etc. and all the other words associated with N/A defending grounds.
But hey, I spend 5k on my stock motor and blow the doors off of a 12k N/A build (been done).
Ok, but chew on this for a second. I have a friend here who we always used to battle with. Cried every time saying "Turbo is cheating and is too easy to do.'
That same friend apologized a few months later, sold his car and is shooting for 400whp AWD Eclipse. Poor bugger had to learn the hard way.

FI is not necessarily cheating.
FI is for shops that can't make a motor flow big CFM numbers without a crutch.
OP: With $25000 in the bank, you're obviously building a race car. In that case, call up DFE and send them a $25000 check, you'll get a 350hp h22 back in the mail no questions asked. LOL, with $25k 350hp isn't near out of the question, especially on race gas.
Dunn, you need to get off your own high horse.

your not thinking logically. Your thinking based on a bias.
send money to pocketrocketsracing.com or to RLZ engineering and they will send you a 300whp motor in return.

Do you know what it takes to run 18:1 compression?
I can't see 350hp happening without super high compression, big cams, tons of head/port work, and the lightest most balanced bottom end you can find. If you don't know how to do those things, then pay someone else to do it and post it up when you're done.

no...you are forcng more air into the engine than it would naturally. Cheating IMO. You may think its wack, but when you think about it, its true.

Next time your tires are low you should naturally fill them up since using a compressor is cheating.
I'm no fan of turbos myself...massive respect for a NA builder but a well built engine with forced air is respectable just the same
Just from my experience:
NA guys usually build an all-around good car. Pleasing to the eye, good quality, lots of love put into the whole car. They're not so worried about the finanical impact as they are a clean, fast, reliable ride.
Turbo guys have a beat-to-**** donor car, pieced together plumbing, and all together it is something I'd be embarrased to drive to meet with a buisness client. They're just trying to get a lot of bang for the buck.
Obviously this is not always the case but just what I've noticed locally.
