Default Help with overcamming..

Ok so I finally got my car tuned and all. The backround is I have a JDM ITR motor with Skunk2 Pro Series 2 cams, gears, springs, and retainers. When i got it all tuned and such I got 173whp and 122lbs of Tq. My tuner told me he was a bit upset due to the fact that he had tuned 3 STOCK ITRs that have gotten 184whp. He was expecting 190whp with the cams and the tune, but he told me he tried everything he could from adjusting the cam timing to the ignition timing, and the best he could get was the numbers i have. He told me there are alot of different varables that could play a role in why its not getting higher numbers such as stock header restricting better Airflow, or his main reason is that im overcammed. My question is what can i do to better "reliveve" the cams and support them to get some better numbers?
Here is a picture of the dyno sheet:

and just for kicks....

Guy that painted it SUCKED! So i have to get it repsrayed sometime. I talked to a few other people and they told me to get a bit more power to mill my head to like .020 inch and get a thinner headgasket to raise the compression.

Oh whats up man. Yeah I knew that building looked faimilar, little mustang/domestic shop. I put down 201 on that dyno in 104 F ambient temps, with a bad header. And a friend of mine indeed did put down 190 WHP on a stock internal JDM ITR engine, just quality bolt ons. Have you down a compression/leakdown test on your engine to make sure the cams were properly installed and that nothing is wrong?

All the bolt ons do add up. I spy an intake, is it a 3"? If not, I'd recommend a 3" with a BPi velocity stack. Get yourself a quality header, SMSP comes to mind. Maybe even a 2 layer head gasket or so to bump up that compression a little bit, the Pro2s do like a lot of compression.

Its just a AEM SRI intake, too afraid of hydrolocking engine here in FL with the rain....I was planning on getting a better Header as well. Looking at SMSP. Dont get me wrong I mean after the tunning the motor pulls very hard. He set vtec at 5875rpm, redline at 9k with my power dropping at 8,600rpm

You need the supporting mods for those cams, John is a member over here and I'm sure he will chime in on this when he sees this.

I'd recommend 3" piping.

As for the leakdown and compression tests, had them both done when the cams and such were put in...everything is perfect

Why on earth did you go with the Pro 2s with your setup?

Stock header has to go

I was foolish, and i have to live it now. As for the header, i know it has to go...but $1200 doesnt just come along in an instant.

you need to degree the cams. you dont have enough compression, and your header is really holding you back.

My mechanic told me that he degreed them as much as he could to be able to drive. Becase it was running really rich and would stall on idle. Then when i took it to get it tuned he adjusted the cams....so im guessing they werent degreed

Why not try computing the dynamic compression with your cams? There numerous websites that can do it. The only thing is that no. that you will plug in is for the big lobe. Your tuner can then street tune for the primary lobe for detonation etc. I guess you have the cam spec sheet and check what the closing ABDC is. My guess its higher than 50. Which I recall when I did my computation showed that a cam with that ABDC would need a sr of 12. If I would do it again, I would rather mill my head. Good luck and keep us informed on the build.
