Default New Key question

Im going to get a new key cut for my car. Any experiences with prices? Would you recommend dealership as opposed to a locksmith?

Local hardware store Most all places should have the trace-style cutters so anyone can do it, and not mess it up. Should be under five bucks for a new key and the cut. Be sure and take it outside and try it right after you get it so you can have them do a re-cut if it doesn't work.

Thanks for the input. I realized afterwards that i needed a whole new key cut and i couldnt bring it to the hardware store because i was using my valet key. Dealership charged $7.95 so not too bad. Thanks again for the input.
