Default Refinished CF-48's ... Oldskool <56K OK>

Well, I recently picked up some 13x5.5 CF-48's for a steal of a price ($90 and a two-hour drive). They were disgusting. They had about four different colors of paint on them, the top coat being some cheap gold spraypaint. One of the layers appeared to be white latex paint, yes, I **** you not, house paint. It took one can of aircraft stripper per wheel to get all the crap off the insides and faces.

Well, left with some stained, partially corroded wheels, I decided they needed some love for once in their life. I wanted to go with a high-gloss texture black, and so I went about it.

Two coats Krylon Rust Tough Enamel (primer)
Two coats Duplicolor Hi-Temp Engine Enamel (gloss black) on the insides
Four coats Plastikote Classic Lacquer (gloss black) on the faces
Three coats Duplicolor High Performance Wheel Coating (clear) on the faces

Partially Stripped:

Primed:

Insides painted:

First coat:

Third coat:

Clearcoated:

They'll be getting brand new tires within the week, some Yokohama AVID T4's (185/60/13) .... all-weather goodness.

Yeah, now the tricky part is finding someone who

A) Has the Kanji Badges
B) Has the Centercaps
C) Won't charge me a kidney for them.

I don't even know if I'll be able to find the aero discs .... not sure they made the 13's in black .... I know they made the 14's and 15's in the black/gold ....

I do not have the patience, time, or money to sand those wheels down ..... it'd take me hours upon hours to refinish every little fin, nook, and cranny.

I'm tryin' hard .... got some emails out to some JDM wheel importers and some WTB adds ..... no leads yet.

And as for being ****, I usually am, but I wanted to refinish these in time for a meet. I'm later going to strip them again, hot tank, acid bath .... and then, depending on how they look, I'll either polish the lip and microclear the whole wheel, or powedercoat them 90% gloss black.

It's all about how nice the metal is underneath. I noticed some minor corrosion on some of the fins, and I don't know if it's just the "steel" coating on the face, or if it's down to the bare metal. An acid bath will tell all.

If it does turn out to be the face, I'll polish the lip and powdercoat the faces. The lips were in really nice condition, very bright metal.

I'm ok with it. They'll actually only be 10mm thinner than my 15's .... so handling won't suffer greatly, and it'll be nice to have a set of wheels with some all-weather tires on. I've got my meshies with summer sport tires, my crx si wheels with studless snow, and now I'll have my mugen's with all-seasons.

It's all about being comfortable in your own skin

Hahaha those are my ******* old wheels! one painted gold (for ***** and giggles) and the rest painted black. the original owner didn't know what they were so he had them spray painted flat black. BUT the latex paint was actually the orginal color of the wheels, if you search hard enough you can find pics of white CF-48's. Haha i actually sold them to some kid for $120. But good luck so funny....all the wheels ive been through...
